About the service

The Leeds and Mid Yorkshire Diabetic Eye Screening Programme (DESP) delivers a fully quality assured screening programme including:

•14 screening venues across Leeds, Wakefield and North Kirklees
•Brand new screening cameras for all screening sites
•A mobile van and trolley to reach out to the wider community
•A central base in the Eye Centre at Pinderfields Hospital in Wakefield, ensuring the programme has a dedicated eye screening hub for administration and grading of patients results.

How do patients know when their diabetic eye screening is due?

Patients due to attend for diabetic eye screening will be sent a fixed appointment about six weeks before their appointment date. Patients will be offered an appointment at a screening location close to where they live. The appointment letter will include a map on the back to show patients where their appointment will take place as well as details of alternative screening venues.

We offer a dedicated appointment helpline if patients would like to change the date and time of the appointment or if they want to attend a different screening venue more convenient to them.
