Designing a new study
The National Institute for Health Research (NIHR) Research Design Service Yorkshire and the Humber (RDS YH) is one of ten regional services across England who each give design and methodological support to health and social care researchers who are developing research applications.
They aim to increase the volume and quality of successful grant applications for national peer reviewed funding competitions. RDS advisers provide expert advice and support to help you to develop and design a high quality research proposal and apply for one of the competitions. All support is confidential and provided free of charge.
If your study is to involve patients please visit our Involving patients in research page
The Health Research Authority (HRA) is responsible for promoting the interests of patients and the public in health and social care research, to make sure research is ethically reviewed and approved. Other approvals could be from (but not limited to):
- Medicines for Healthcare Regulatory Authority (MHRA)
- Gene Therapy Advisory Committee (GTAC)
- National Information Governance Board
Many research applications will also be required to adhere to UK legislation, such as:
If you do not plan for your study to be NIHR supported please talk to your sponsor about research design support.
