When the time comes for you to have your baby, you want to be in a place where you feel comfortable, confident and prepared for childbirth and parenthood.
At the Mid Yorkshire Hospitals NHS Trust we will be with you every step of the way, offering you help and advice throughout your pregnancy and when it’s time to give birth. We will continue to support and guide you as you embark on parenthood.
Our Maternity services cover the care of mums-to-be and their baby, including during the birth and the postnatal period (immediately after the baby is born).
We are disappointed to say we will be temporarily closing our Friarwood Birth Centre at Pontefract from Friday 8 November 2019 to 30 September 2020. This isn't a choice we've made lightly. Essentially, it’s because - despite having just recruited 15 new midwives to the Trust - there is a national shortage of midwives and we still don’t currently have enough midwives to provide the standard of service we would want to across all three of our midwifery-led units. So we have to employ our midwives where most women choose to birth, which is at Pinderfields and Dewsbury (find more details about the reasons here).
Our midwives are getting in contact to discuss choices with mums-to-be booked in at Pontefract, but if you have any queries, please contact your community midwife.
Just to confirm that all of our ante and postnatal clinics at Pontefract will continue running as normal.
