Cancer Survivor gives back

A former patient who wanted to give something back to the team who helped her in her recovery from cancer has started volunteering at the Macmillan hub at Pinderfields Hospital.

Margaret Pawson, 69 from Ossett, was diagnosed with inflammatory breast cancer in January 2012, and just weeks after her diagnosis she received a further diagnosis of secondary bone cancer, with a tumour on her spine.

Margaret, who has been through a challenging five years undergoing a double mastectomy, chemotherapy and radiotherapy, is now in full remission, but wanted to give something back to the Oncology team at Pinderfields Hospital for saving her life.

Margaret Pawson said; “Dr Naik and his team were always informative, supportive and caring and I received the highest possible care, for which I am truly grateful.

“I want to do what I can to help other cancer patients like myself through the difficult cancer journey."

Margaret now volunteers approximately 16 hours a month on the Macmillan support stand at on Floor D at Pinderfields Hospital.
