Children’s winning artwork to take pride of place

Artwork by creative competition winners from two Dewsbury schools will take pride of place in the refurbished and extended children’s A & E department at Dewsbury Hospital.

Staff in the department invited all local schools to take part in producing colourful designs that could help alleviate any stress and anxiety young visitors to the department may face.

Helena Moore, Paediatric Sister, came up with the idea, she said; “Hospital can be a daunting place for anyone, let alone children. We wanted to give them the opportunity to make the environment which they may one day need to use, brighter and more welcoming, which is how we came up with the competition idea.”

Two schools chose to take part in the competition, Holy Spirit Catholic School in Heckmondwike and Crossley Fields school in Mirfield who designed their pictures along the theme of “Up in the air.”

From the many entries received (all the pupils at Holy Spirit entered the competition), 13 were chosen to display and the children were invited to visit the department to see where their pictures will be displayed and also received a prize of a high street gift voucher.
