Radio Aire listeners were one of the many groups of people opening their hearts to those spending Christmas in hospital.
Through their Cash for Kids campaign, they donated a staggering 400 presents to Dewsbury and District Hospital’s Accident and Emergency department – to distribute to children attending there.
And next door at the Children’s Assessment Unit, staff from Asda in Dewsbury also popped-in to donate much appreciated gifts for paediatric patients and staff.
Kindness was in abundance for the older folks too, with the Royal Voluntary Service presenting yuletide treasures to patients on elderly care wards – also in Dewsbury.
Giving time is as precious as donating presents of course, and everyone from young entertainers from charity Starlight to Rugby players from the Wakefield Wildcats stopped to talk to patients and pass on seasonal greetings.
Our staff also played their part, with a team of carollers donning 1940’s nursing uniforms to entertain the elderly.
A BIG thanks to the following for their donations to our patients:
- Castleford Tigers
- Featherstone Rovers
- Heckmondwike Reformed Church
- Tesco Pontefract
- Darren Peach Heckmondwike Christadelphian Ecclesia
- Batley Bulldogs
- Tesco Dewsbury
- Sainsbury’s Wakefield
- Holmfield Arms Wakefield
- Tech Monkies
- Beerpigs Scooter Club

…and indeed everyone who made it a happier Christmas at Dewsbury, Pontefract and Wakefield hospitals.
