Children’s Regional Burns Unit ward clerk Kevin Rattray was just one of the recipients of a Celebrating Excellence Award 2015.
Presented in nine categories, these honours celebrate the fantastic achievements of our colleagues and teams in demonstrating the Trust’s commitment to striving for excellence.
Kevin was saluted by his peers as, “providing a positive impression of the unit offering reassurance to families in stressful circumstances.”
Other individuals honoured included acute hospital liaison manager Richard Bunn described as, “Passionate about delivering equality of care”. Surgical trainee Matt Rothwell was our Student Trainee of the Year while director of pharmacy Phil Deady was Leader of the Year. Matt Rothwell from Pontefract Hospital was Student/Trainee/Apprentice of the year.
Commendations were also presented to medical student Sam Gregson, Pinderfields volunteer Pat Thompstone, Dewsbury biomedical scientist Karen Hilton, play specialist and phenomenal fundraiser Tracy Foster and her colleague on the Children’s Regional Burns Unit Claire Swales; stroke unit ward manager sister Alison Sharp and secretary Karen Field – who has worked at the Trust for 29 years! Lead Dementia Nurse Anita Ruckledge narrowly missed out on Employee and Leader of the Year awards.
The Kidney Stone Service are our Clinical Team of the Year with Paediatric Diabetes, Respiratory Medicine and Children’s Regional Burns Unit are also highly commended. The Cardiac Rehab Volunteers won the Volunteer of the Year category while Print and Design were Non-Clinical Team of 2015 (beating off superb challenges from Access, Booking and Choice Call Centre and Outpatient Team and Medical Education and Simulation (MESH) Team). The Infusion Unit and the Secretarial Support to Care Closer to Home Division received high commendations.
The Information Technology Services Team received the Valuing our People award, for introducing initiatives to promote development within the team.
MY Star Award for 2013/14 was awarded to Paul Argyle, phlebotomy and clinic support manager, and the MY Star Award for 2014/15 was awarded to Ann Hargrave, respiratory nurse specialist.
The Patients' Choice Award was awarded to Belinda Knowles, neo-natal outreach sister on the Neo-Natal Unit.
Jules Preston, Chairman of The Mid Yorkshire Hospitals NHS Trust said: “The standard of award winners and those commended was high and represents the incredibly innovative, professional and compassionate work so many of our staff do. Whether they are front-line medics or from that army of behind the scenes workers that keep our healthcare system working, these people are the essence of the NHS – and what makes it great.”
