The Director of Pharmacy at the Mid Yorkshire Hospitals NHS Trust has been appointed as Chair of the Pharmaceutical Market Support Group – a national medicines procurement group who help to manage the medicines market on behalf of all hospitals in England.
The Pharmaceutical Market Support Group (PMSG) is tasked with making decisions on NHS hospital medicines contracts, making sure that the medicines used are of the highest quality and are the most cost-effective for the tax payer. The group also has a major role in dealing with medicines supply issues in hospitals, working with pharmaceutical companies to minimise the impact on patients.
Phil Deady, Director of Pharmacy at The Mid Yorkshire Hospitals NHS Trust since 2014, has been appointed by NHS England for a period of three years from January 2018 as Chair of the PMSG. He will also be a member of the National Pharmaceutical Supply Group.
Phil has worked in the hospital pharmacy industry for over 25 years, and has nine years’ experience of medicines procurement in a previous role he held at Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust.
Phil said; “I am honoured to be appointed as Chair of the Pharmaceutical Market Support Group, and I’m looking forward to working with colleagues to make sure our patients continue to get the high quality medicines they need.”
