New chapter for historical hospital site

Laurence Perry (Bursar and Clerk to the Governors, WGSF), Iain Brodie (General Facilities Manager, MYHT) and John McLeod (Spokesperson for the Governors, WGSF). The Governors of Wakefield Grammar School Foundation are delighted to announce that agreement (subject to planning) has been made with the Mid Yorkshire Hospitals NHS Trust for the purchase of the former Clayton Hospital site.

Both parties can now look forward to the site being regenerated for the benefit of future users.

Located between Queen Elizabeth Grammar School on Northgate and Wakefield Girls’ High School on Wentworth Street, development of the site will provide state-of-the art facilities to be enjoyed by future generations of pupils and the Wakefield community, whilst at the same time improving greatly the aesthetics and functionality of the current area.

Iain Brodie, General Facilities Manager at Mid Yorkshire Hospitals NHS Trust, said: “The Mid Yorkshire Hospitals NHS Trust is delighted to have reached an agreement with the Wakefield Grammar School Foundation to have them as the preferred bidder for the Clayton Hospital site. We are confident that should their bid progress successfully, the site will become an asset for the entire community.”
