A Huddersfield University student is celebrating after attending an open day at The Mid Yorkshire Hospitals NHS Trust and walking away with the offer of a job.
25 year old Coral Kildunne is studying to be an Operating Department Practitioner and went to the Trust’s open day in order to find out more about what she could expect once she qualifies.
“As part of my degree course I am working on placement here at Pinderfields three days a week, but I wanted to learn more about the role, the different things I can get involved with and how I will be able to develop my career.
“I hadn’t realised there would be the opportunity to be interviewed for a job, which I suppose worked in my favour as it meant I didn’t have time to feel nervous or spend the night before worrying about it.”
Coral worked in the field of healthcare for a number of years - out in the community and in residential homes - before making the decision to embark on an ODP degree as the theatre environment was one that appealed to her.
“The degree is really rewarding,” she continued, “I find the surgery side of healthcare fascinating and I’m glad I made the decision to take this career path. I’m looking forward to starting my new role when I qualify next year and in time I’m hoping to do other qualifications.”
Coral will join the Trust full time in June 2017, once she completes her studies. Until then she will continue to work with the theatre team as part of her university placement.
