The Arthritis Care group, based in Pontefract, was initially set up over 15 years ago by some of the current group members diagnosed with arthritis and other rheumatology related diseases.
The physiotherapy team on Gate 3A at Pinderfields Hospital, plan to use the money towards buying specialist physiotherapy equipment such as floats, weights and pain-relief tool kits to help benefit patients with arthritis and other rheumatology related diseases during their hydrotherapy pool sessions at Pinderfields Hospital.
Sally Walsh, Senior Specialist Physiotherapist (Rheumatology), at The Mid Yorkshire Hospitals NHS Trust, said; “We were delighted when Arthritis Care contacted us to
offer a donation towards specialist equipment for the Hydrotherapy Pool. Being able to support patients further with their hydrotherapy sessions will really make a difference to their experience and will hopefully help with managing their pain.”
Group member and Charity Secretary of the Arthritis Care Pontefract & District Branch, Elaine Lorriman, said; “We are keen to support our group members and other patients with managing their pain relief during their hydrotherapy sessions at Pinderfields Hospital. We really hope that the local councils will follow this example of providing key specialist equipment in the leisure centres for people diagnosed with arthritis and other rheumatology related diseases.”
Elaine added “For people with arthritis the hydrotherapy sessions and the specialist physio equipment together will really make a difference to help them manage their pain.”
The group have previously supported their local swimming pool in Pontefract, by raising money to buy a shower chair at their local swimming pool in Pontefract, to help those who have difficulty standing up for long periods of time.
Rheumatology patients can be referred by the physiotherapists for hydrotherapy sessions with the Technical Instructors at Pinderfields Hospital, from any three of The Mid Yorkshire Hospitals NHS Trust sites.
