Pinderfields Intensive Care Unit receives generous donation

The Critical Care Unit (CCU) team at Pinderfields Hospital in Wakefield have received a generous donation of electrical items from the family of a patient admitted to their department earlier this year.

The patient, Mr Nigel Bruce Teal, sadly passed away on the CCU after getting over cancer radiotherapy & tuberculosis he unfortunately got struck down with pneumonia at the end of May this year.

His family were so overwhelmed with the support and compassion shown to them during his time on the unit that they wanted to give something back to the team that helped them through their heart-breaking and difficult time.

Miss Sharon Teal and her family set up a just-giving page with friends, family and their local church to raise money for items for patients and staff on the CCU at Pinderfields Hospital. The items donated included two Dyson fans, three DAB radios, three 10-inch portable DVD players, chocolate, biscuits and £30 towards tea & coffee for the staff.

Nigel’s daughter, Sharon Teal, said: “We wanted to do raise money and donate these items as a big thank you to Abhi (Abhinand Devi) and the rest of the critical care team because of their excellent care and support shown to my father during his time on the unit. All the staff on this ward from the receptionist to the nurses, doctors and consultants were amazing in their duty of care to my dad and to us his family.”

Sharon added “Abhi’s attention to detail is phenomenal; he made sure my father always looked clean and shaven, he was extremely attentive and genuinely saddened by my father’s demise.”

Sharon Teal said the family were determined to find a way to thank hospital staff for her father’s care during his time on the unit.

Abhinand Devi, Staff Nurse on the CCU at Pinderfields Hospital, who supported the family, said: “The Teals are a truly amazing family, we’re very grateful for their very generous donations. As a team we always try our very best to support the families of our patients as much as possible during these very sad and difficult times. We were honoured to have met such a wonderful family.”
