Tour de Yorkshire comes to mid Yorks

On Saturday 30 April 2016 Stage 2 of the Tour de Yorkshire cycle race is coming through Mid Yorkshire.

Starting at Otley the route includes a section which goes through Pontefract.  The route heads south through the town following the A645 (Knottingley Road, Bondgate and Southgate) before turning onto the A639 (Ackworth Road) and out of the town.  Both the men’s and women’s race will include this route on the day and rolling roadblocks will be set up to allow both races to pass through.

This means access to Pontefract Hospital will be restricted on the day, especially when the rolling roadblock is in place.

The roadblock is expected to last an hour and will take place:

  • Between 10 and 11am for the women’s race
  • Between 4 and 5pm for the men’s race

Visitors to the hospital should be aware of this disruption and make alternative arrangements if necessary.  The Emergency Department will be open on the day and people can attend as they normally would.

More information about the race and the route is available at the dedicated website
