Database Training

The library provides one-to-one training on searching the NICE healthcare databases and
offers support and guidance in conducting an effective search strategy.

Please contact us for more details or pop in to the library to discuss your information needs.

Although face-to-face training remains suspended due to COVID-19, virtual database training sessions are available. 


Critical Appraisal - Finding and Appraising the Evidence

6 modules take you through the process of finding and appraising evidence, from how to find evidence to how to assess the validity and reliability of the published research in order to provide effective and efficient healthcare – you can select each module individually.

Health Library for North Staffordshire - Critical Appraisal Tools Online Tutorial (with Audio)

This online tutorial introduces tools which will help you to appraise research that you have found.

The University of Nottingham - Critical Appraisal Toolkit

This course is intended primarily for healthcare professionals and researchers working in Dermatology. You will be asked to read an article on a dermatology clinical trial and then work through some interactive activities, it should take approximately 45 minutes to complete.

Oxford Centre for Evidence-Based Medicine - Systematic reviews and research synthesis

A Powerpoint presentation which takes you through critical appraisal step-by-step.
