In line with the requirements of the Public Sector Equality Duty in the Equality Act 2010, the Trust developed and published its first set of Equality Objectives (which it called ‘Inclusion Objective’) in the spring of 2012.
In 2014 the Trust Workforce Committee was provided with a report on progress with these objectives: IO 2012_16 Update 2014 [pdf] 170KB. The report identified that the objectives that had been chosen related specifically to workforce and leadership issues, were predominantly internally focused and operational in nature. The Workforce Committee therefore decided that where further work was still required to progress any of the objectives, it should be done within the context of the Trust’s Workforce strategy and that new strategically focused Equality Objectives should be established for 2015/18 in two areas, as described below:
Services and Patients
“Develop and implement an infrastructure that enables all stakeholders irrespective of age, social class, gender, disability, sexual orientation, ethnicity, marital status or religion/belief to be involved in developing the Trust’s services.”
“We will look to recruit staff from the widest range of applicants to achieve a workforce which reflects the diversity of our local communities.”

In 2016 we developed an Equality, Diversity and Inclusion Strategy for the Trust to provide a framework for threading EDI into core business activities. The strategy, which describes the national and local drivers, establishes 5 Equality Objectives for the Trust for 2016 – 2020; the two Equality Objectives above have been included as part of the five.

Progress made against the five new Equality Objectives for 2016 – 2020 will be reported on an annual basis as part of the Trust’s Equality, Diversity and Inclusion Annual Report starting in 2016/17.
