Celebrating National Admin Day - Eliza

Eliza sat in an office smiling at the camera

It's National Administrative Professionals Day on Wednesday 24 April, and in recognition of the fantastic work our admin and clerical teams do, we will be sharing case studies from colleagues across the Trust.

Overview of your current job

I work as an Appointment and referral co-ordinator in the Access, Booking and Choice team. This invovles:

  • Assisting new staff with training and learning the role within the call centre
  • Creating referrals on patients records from doctor/nurse requests and booking if asked
  • Directing patients to the correct department
  • Liaising with GP surgeries, secretaries and other departments within the hospital
  • Offering advice to patients
  • Assisting booking teams with booking and cancelling short notice clinics
  • Sorting through optician referrals and uploading to the system to be triage
  • Helping with Patients Know Best queries.

Please tell us about how you got here?

I worked in the care industry for a few years. I made the decision to look for another job, but I knew I still wanted to help people as much as I could. It was just a matter of seeing the job advertisement and loving the description and knowing that I would still be able to help people.

How has your role developed since you started your career?

My role has developed as I have been given regular admin tasks and I feel I am trusted in helping the new starters with any advice and queries they have. I also get asked to help with the booking teams.

What are the best bits about your role?

I enjoy all parts of my role. My team is great, and we all get on well. Morale is great within the office, and we are all comfortable to ask for help from one another. I love helping patients with any queries and requests they may have. I like being able to do the other admin tasks also and learning more about other departments within Access, Booking and Choice.

What advice would you give to someone wanting to do a similar role/career?

Go for it. Best thing I ever did was come into an office environment within Access, Booking and Choice . Everyone is very friendly and welcoming.
