Upgraded Neurophysiology equipment at Pinderfields

Patient being treated with Neurophysiology equipment at Pinderfields

The Neurophysiology department at the Mid Yorkshire Hospitals NHS Trust is pleased to have recently upgraded its equipment in order to make a better experience for both patients and staff.

The upgrades consist of an all-new EEG (Electroencephalography) system, which replaces the current system which has been in place since 2010. The system will be used to conduct tests that record brain activity to detect abnormalities in brain waves, in order to help diagnose and monitor a number of neurological conditions such as epilepsy.

A brand-new Evoked Potential machine has also been purchased, which will allow electrical activity to be measured in specific areas of the brain, alongside a new EMG (Electromyography) Nerve Conduction machine, to replace one of the older current machines, which will be installed in next month and will allow staff to calculate how well patients’ nerves and muscles of the peripheral nervous system are functioning.

The upgraded equipment has been purchased as part of a replacement program at the Trust and the team would like to thank Medical Physics and IT for their support in upgrading the systems. Staff in the Neurophysiology department are very much looking forward to working with the brand-new equipment, which will allow them to work more efficiently going forward.
