Nursing and midwifery vacancies

We offer a wide range of roles – from support workers and graduates to senior positions up to Band 8a.

Our teams work across our three hospitals and in the community, with opportunities in critical care, children’s services, maternity, theatres, surgery, and adult specialist medicine. We also have a specialist burns, trauma, and spinal unit.

We have a supportive in-house Professional Development and Education Unit (PDEU), which runs our preceptorship programmes, delivers training, and provides pastoral and personal support.

Graduate nurse programme

We have a dedicated Professional Development and Education Unit (PDEU), which is nationally recognised for its award-winning programme helping newly qualified nurses move smoothly from student life into registered practice.

Our graduate nurse programme is all about promoting the Trust’s values and creating a workplace people enjoy being part of. It’s been shaped around what new nurses told us they’re looking for:

  • being part of a supportive team
  • manageable workloads and good staffing levels
  • feeling satisfied in their job
  • being valued and appreciated
  • working in a pleasant environment

Our graduate nurse recruitment events typically run between March and June, to attend an event you would need to complete an application, any job adverts will be posted on our careers site.

If you're interested in joining our graduate nurse programme, we recommend creating a job alert on our careers site so you can be notified as soon as the adverts go live.

University of Bradford School of Nursing

We have partnered with the University of Bradford to create an off-site nursing school and degree programme, based at Dewsbury Hospital.

Key facts:

  • Study towards a pre-registration BSc (Hons) Nursing Programme in Adult Nursing.
  • 50% of the course is clinically based so you will spend half of your time in clinical areas, across our hospital and community settings.
  • All teaching takes place in purpose designed facilities in the Oakwell Centre at Dewsbury and District Hospital.
  • The course will take 3 years to complete, details on how to apply, course modules and entry requirements are on the University of Bradford website.

What our students say

Jemma Pickering, tells us a little bit about the degree programme:

"One of the best things about the course is that it's 50% theory and 50% placement. It's based at Dewsbury Hospital, which familiarised us within the Trust from day one. I particularly enjoyed the clinical skills within the course, as this is a place we could make mistakes and improve our skills, without risking patient care. It allowed for us to practice our skills and ensured we did the correct procedures on the “patient manikins” rather than a real patient.

The support received from the university is second to none, and because they are in collaboration with the Trust, they work together to deliver sessions, giving it a family feel.

My advice to anyone considering joining the school of nursing is GO FOR IT! 100%! Just ensure you are organised, buy a diary and keep up to date with your studies and you won't go far wrong. I hope you enjoy it as much as I did!”

MY 3 step career pathway for band 5 nurses

Our three step career pathway was introduced to clearly identify where a band 5 nurse is in their career journey and to demonstrate what training they have undertaken/need to complete.

Nurses are identified by a coloured logo sticker that is attached to their name badge.

In addition this pathway provides clear identification of nurses that have the transferable and interchangeable skills to support permanent wards and/or extra capacity wards.

The pathway consists of three levels:

  • Fresher nurse / Registered nurse graduates
  • Junior nurse
  • Senior nurse
