My Consultant – Dr Sanesh Pillai

Sanesh Pillai

Sanesh Pillai joined Mid Yorkshire Teaching NHS Trust back in June, and has a passion for medical education and innovation. This is Dr Pillai’s story…

Hello, my name is Sanesh Pillai, and I am a Consultant Endocrinologist at Mid Yorkshire Teaching NHS Trust. My professional journey includes specialised training in diabetes and endocrinology, as well as general internal medicine, which I completed in South Yorkshire in 2022.

Joining Mid Yorks in June 2023 as a consultant, I found the diabetes and endocrine department to be a robust and established service within the hospital, offering a comprehensive range of subspecialty services.

My interests lie in the advancement of diabetes technology and metabolic medicine, areas where I see significant potential for growth within our department. Having previously led lipid clinics, I am well-versed in managing patients with lipid disorders, an experience I continue to draw upon in our department where such cases are plentiful.

Beyond clinical practice, I am deeply committed to medical education. Recently, I initiated departmental teaching sessions aimed at continuous learning and professional development within our team. This initiative, which encourages juniors to both teach and learn while receiving valuable feedback, has been positively received by our colleagues.

Moreover, I am fortunate to be part of a department that prioritises research and innovation. Working alongside our dedicated research team and skilled nurses, I have opportunities to finetune my research skills and contribute to advancements in patient care.

Mid Yorks has given me the opportunity to develop my career in endocrinology and diabetes care. The supportive environment, coupled with opportunities for medical education and research, enables me to thrive both professionally and personally.
