T Level students wrap up their work placements

T Level students from Wakefield College and Kirklees College have been with us throughout the year, spending one day a week gaining real-life experience on the wards at Pinderfields Hospital and Dewsbury and District Hospital.

On their final day before the summer holidays, we caught up with the Wakefield College students, who were finishing with a day of MAYBO training. Delivered by our in-house trainers, the session gave them useful techniques for reducing risk, managing conflict, and improving personal safety, all skills they can carry forward in their careers.

Nancy has just finished her placement on the Spinal Unit. She’s come a long way since her first day, which she admits was incredibly nerve wracking. Her goal is to become a midwife, and she’s really enjoying being around patients, watching observations, doing bed baths and helping out at meal times. She’s already looking forward to coming back next year and has requested to work in A&E.

Aissa started out on Haematology. She said it was a bit of shock at first – very different to college, but it didn’t take long to settle in. She’s worked alongside her buddy to do patient observations, serve meals and help make beds. Long term she’s aiming to become a nursing associate and work her way up to a registered nurse.

We’re so proud of everything the students have achieved this year and can’t wait to welcome them back next academic year.
