The Trust is committed to promoting equality, diversity and human rights in its day to day treatment of all patients, visitors and staff regardless of race, ethnic origin, sex, gender identity, marital status, maternity and pregnancy, disability, religion or belief, sexual orientation or age.

Our commitment

The Trust recognises the diversity and difference that exist within our workforce and the communities we serve across, Pontefract, Wakefield and the North Kirklees area. We will seek to ensure that in the delivery of our services we give proper regard to the needs diverse groups within our workforce and these communities.

We are committed to promoting inclusive practices in our day to day interactions with all our patients, carers, visitors and staff with respect to race, ethnic origin, gender, gender identity, mental or physical disability, religion and belief, sexual orientation, age, maternity or social class.

In line with our Vision, values and behaviours we will strive to treat all patients, carers, visitors and staff with ‘Respect’ and dignity at all times, to put ‘Caring’ at the heart of everything we do, to ensure that ‘High Standards’ of patient services and experience are provided at all times and ‘Improving’ what we do is our constant ambition.

This is not a new commitment on the part of the Trust; it is a restatement of our continuing efforts to recognise diversity, embrace difference and engage the workforce and local communities as we go about our business.

Equality, Diversity and Inclusion Annual Report

Our annual EDI Work Plan is based on our five Equality Objectives  with the aim of implementing the Trust’s Equality, Diversity and Inclusion Strategy 2016-20. Quarterly update reports  have been provided to the  Trust’s Resources and Performance Committee, which in turn has provided assurance to the Trust Board that progress was being made. The previous reports have now been summarised in an  Equality and Diversity Annual Report 2019-20.pdf

MY Equality, Diversity and Inclusion Interim Strategic Plan

The Mid Yorkshire Teaching NHS Trust is committed to ensuring that equality, diversity and inclusion is at the heart of everything we do. This interim strategic plan reflects national, regional and local drivers which shape and inform our EDI priorities and describes four new EDI key priority work streams for the next twelve months (2022-23).

The plan available here: MY Equality Diversity and Inclusion Interim Strategic Plan 2022 23 will be reviewed and refreshed in 2023 in light of the development of a wider Trust Strategy.
