Changes to visitor car parking charges - investing in a better experience

From 1 September 2025, visitor car parking charges at our three hospital sites – Pinderfields, Pontefract and Dewsbury – will increase by 50p. This modest adjustment brings our rates in line with other NHS trusts across the region and reflects the rising costs of maintaining safe, accessible parking facilities.
We want to reassure our patients, visitors and staff that:
-
Short visits under 20 minutes will remain free of charge.
-
All current concessions will continue, including free parking for Blue Badge holders and discounted rates for frequent hospital attenders.
We understand that any increase in cost can be difficult, especially during times of financial pressure. This decision was made with careful consideration and is part of our commitment to protecting frontline services. By making small changes in non-clinical areas like parking, we aim to avoid reductions in direct patient care.
This will be only the second increase in seven years – a period during which the cost of maintaining and securing our car parks has risen significantly.
Investing in smarter parking for the future
Later this year, we will be upgrading our car parking infrastructure with automatic number plate recognition (ANPR) technology. This will:
- Enable real-time monitoring of car park usage.
- Help us identify and respond to peak demand more effectively.
- Support targeted improvements to enhance the experience for all users.
This investment is part of our broader strategy to modernise our facilities and ensure that parking is as efficient, fair and accessible as possible. We appreciate your understanding and continued support as we work to improve the experience for everyone who uses our hospitals.
