Mr Stephen Southern FRCS (plast)

Position

Having Qualified from St.Georges Medical School Mr Stephen Southern continued his basic surgical training in London. His plastic surgery and upper limb training was split between London and Yorkshire and in 2000 he was appointed as a consultant plastic surgeon with a special interest in hand surgery.

Mr Stephen Southern currently mainly performs hand and wrist surgery based at Pinderfields Hospital. He is the head of clinical service for plastic and burns surgery and spends a significant amount of time trying to improve local and regional services.

He is a keen educator, trainer and researcher and a member of the British Society for Surgery of the Hand and the British Association of Plastic, Reconstructive and Aesthetic Surgeons.

Miss George qualified as a doctor in Manchester 1996. Prior to starting her higher surgical training in Plastic Surgery, she successfully completed an MPhil in skin pigmentation in reconstructed skin models in Sheffield. She subsequently undertook a 1 year Burns Fellowship in Auckland, NZ. She started her higher surgical training in Plastic Surgery in Mersey Deanery for 2 years and then transferred to Yorkshire and passed FRCS Plast in 2012. She undertook a Hand and wrist Fellowship in Birmingham 2013. Her special interests include Hand (elective and trauma), skin cancer and acute burns management. She currently coordinates the appraisals for junior doctors within the department.

Miss Muthayya graduated from the Tamil Nadu Dr MGR Medical University, India and was awarded her MBBS degree in 1999.  She then completed her MS in General Surgery in 2003, training at Madras Medical College, Chennai, India.  She completed her higher surgical training in plastic surgery training in Yorkshire, Trent UK in 2015. This included a 12 month Fellowship programme in Burn Surgery at the Shriners Hospital for Burns and University Hospital of Texas Medical Branch, Galveston, Texas, USA. She has been employed as a Consultant Burns and Plastic Surgeon at the Mid Yorkshire Hospitals NHS Trust since August 2015.

David qualified as a doctor from Oxford in 2000.

Following house jobs in Northamptonshire he moved to Yorkshire to train in surgery and specifically plastic surgery.

At the end of registrar training he completed higher fellowships in hand (Oxford) and cosmetic surgery (Yorkshire). His main interests now include hand surgery, skin cancer and body contouring.

At the Mid Yorkshire NHS Trust he also chairs the Sepsis group which aims to improve the treatment of sepsis in line with national standards.

Mr. Holmes qualified from Glasgow University in 2006 and did his general surgical training in Glasgow and Liverpool. He then completed a junior fellowship in Plastic Surgery at Groote Schuur Hospital in Cape Town South Africa before completing his formal plastic surgery training in Yorkshire, UK. This was followed by a nationally awarded TIG fellowship in skin oncology at the Norfolk and Norwich Teaching Hospital and then two microsurgical breast reconstruction fellowships in Bristol and Chelmsford, UK. He was then awarded the BAPRAS/BAAPs fellowship in aesthetic surgery prior to taking up his current post as a consultant plastic surgeon.

Mr LeRoux Fourie

Mr LeRoux Fourie has been a consultant plastic surgeon at the Mid Yorkshire Hospitals NHS Trust since 1993.

His main clinical interest is skin cancer surgery. He is based at Pontefract Hospital in a part time capacity.

Miss Sharmila Jivan MD FRCS (plast)

Ms Jivan graduated from the University of Leicester in 1997. She completed her basic surgical training in Leicester in 2001 and then and moved to Yorkshire for her higher surgical training in Plastic Surgery. In 2004, Ms Jivan was awarded an MD from Umea, Sweden based research in Adult Brachial Plexus Injuries. She has  undertook two specialist fellowships in hand trauma and elective hand surgery in Coimbatore, India and at Broomfield Hospital in Chelmsford.

Over the last 5 years, Ms Jivan has led the Pinderfields Burns and Plastic Surgery Research Unit and  developed strong links with Hudderfield University. The Program has so far supervised 6 research fellows, many of whom have gone onto gain a masters degrees and higher surgical training posts posts in Plastic Surgery

Ms Jivan also convenes, co-convenes and teaches on various plastic surgery courses - both local and national.

Mr George Spyrou

Mr Spyrou gained his medical qualification in Greece before relocating to the UK in 1992. He subsequently qualified as a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh (FRCSEd) in 1996. He then moved into research looking at the management of scars at the University of Bradford. For this he was in awarded the higher degree of Master of Philosophy (MPhil). This was followed by higher specialist training in Plastic Reconstructive and Aesthetic Surgery Yorkshire with additional training in London and Belgium.

Mr Lymperopoulos graduated from University of Athens Medical School in 2009 and did his surgical training in Liverpool. At the same time after research on DIEP Clinical anatomy he was awarded a PhD in 2013. His higher surgical training in Plastic Surgery was completed in Yorkshire and Liverpool including a cosmetic fellowship in North West. He then completed two microsurgical fellowships in The Royal Marsden and St Thomas’ hospital in London.

Mr Anwar graduated in 1996. He then successfully completed higher surgical training in general surgery. After obtaining his  FRCS qualification in general surgery in Glasgow,  Mr Anwar progressed to specialist training in Plastic Surgery  in Yorkshire. This was followed by a competitively awarded fellowship in Hand, Wrist and Microvascular reconstruction at the Birmingham Hand Centre.  He was successfully completed  a Diploma in  European Board of Hand Surgery in 2012.

 Mr Anwar was appointed as a consultant plastic surgeon with a specialist interest in hands and burns in 2010.
