Ismaelette ‘Mymy’ Del Rosario, Matron for Education

Meet ‘Mymy’ Del Rosario, former Senior Research Nurse (now Matron for Education - Governance and Education), who was a winner in the Inclusion, Equality and Diversity category in our Celebrating Excellence Awards. Mymy is a dedicated supporter of inclusion and diversity and is a fair and balanced leader. She supports minority groups via the ‘Stay & Thrive Community of Action’ which helps internationally educated nurses settle into their roles at the Trust, and via the Race Equality Network where staff can be their authentic self at work.

There’s lots of exciting things happening at Mid Yorks, what are your plans for the coming year?

I have joined the Education and Governance Team in Adult Community Services this month. I look forward to knowing and supporting my new team and understanding the Community Services as a whole. The Education Team supports training for community teams including the exciting new project on Virtual Ward. We recognise the key role of community services to drive and champion the delivery of a connected system that supports people in the place they call home and within their communities. This aligns to the Wakefield Health and District Partnership Vision to allow ‘people of Wakefield to live longer, healthier lives’. With collaboration with specialist teams in the Trust, we are also launching the new Community based Simulation Suite to deliver education with real community scenarios. So watch this space, we have lots of exciting things for this coming year.

What are your plans for the festive period this year?

Apart from the get togethers with friends and family, I also make time to give pastoral support our new international nurses who are unable to spend the season with their loved ones. Christmas is a very happy occasion however it can also be a difficult period for those away from home.

What’s your favourite festive dish?

The Christmas Jamon (Ham). This ham is extra special because it has a special secret sauce that only my husband and his family knows!

What’s your favourite Christmas film / song?

The Holiday – I wish they’ll do a sequel!

Tinsel or twinkly lights?

Twinkly lights!

Do you have a favourite Christmas tradition?

We celebrate Christmas in the Philippines slightly different than here. We have our big Christmas dinner with family on Christmas Eve, attends midnight mass and open gifts before going to bed. We however now open our presents in the morning and attends mass on Christmas day. One thing stays the same, Christmas for us is all about family.
