Your referral to Mid Yorkshire has been accepted
If you have been referred to the Mid Yorkshire Teaching NHS Trust by your GP and have received a 'Referral acceptance notification' letter from us, the following information will be useful for you.
We want to prepare you for the time between us receiving a referral following your GP visit and you attending your first outpatient appointment.
What will happen next?
You are now on our waiting list. We will contact you with the details of your appointment as soon as this has been booked. You may be contacted before this date to make sure you still wish to remain on our waiting list.
Average waiting times can be accessed further down this page. Please be aware, as these are averages times, some patients will wait longer than this.
What can I do while I wait?
When you have received your 'Referral acceptance notification' letter from us, there are steps you should now consider taking before your first appointment.
Register with Patients Know Best
Patients Know Best (PKB) is our online patient portal that lets you access personal health information about the care we provide to you.
PKB is a secure online system where your data is stored. You can view your healthcare information such as hospital appointment information and appointment letters, together with some test results. More exciting features and health information are coming to PKB very soon.
Once you have signed up to PKB, you will begin to receive some of your future correspondence this way, helping to keep your personal information securely in one place.

Check and update your personal information
Email addresses and mobile phone numbers mean that we can get some information to you faster and in a way that is much better for the environment. The next time you attend for an appointment, please let the receptionist know if you have a mobile number and an email address and are happy for us to contact you in this way. We will only ever use your personal information to contact you about your healthcare with us.
Preparing for appointments
Before you attend any appointment, it is helpful to think about the questions you want to ask and what is most important to you about how you live your life.
Three questions you might want to ask are:
- What are my options?
- What are the possible benefits and risks of those options?
- What help do I need to make my decision?
When waiting for an appointment, we encourage our patients to use this opportunity to 'wait well' by maintaining their physical and mental health. To help you do this, we have put together a list of helpful local and national resources.
Visit the 'waiting well' page for more information.
Do you require information in accessible formats?
If you need information in an accessible format, it's important that you read and complete the Support for patients with specific communication needs leaflet before your appointment and send this to us. This can be accessed via the link below.
Please don’t worry if you don’t have access to a printer, our reception staff will be happy to provide you with one when you attend your next appointment.
