Wakefield Intermediate Care Unit (WICU)

We provide short term in-patient nursing and therapy to people registered with a Wakefield GP who need extra support, care and rehabilitation following an acute hospital stay before they go to the place they call home. 

About our service

The team is made up of nurses, health care support workers, doctors, occupational therapists and physiotherapists  social workers, and pharmacists who carry out assessments and regular reviews in partnership with you to support discharge to the place you call home.

Useful information

The following items are recommended for your / your relative’s stay:

  • day clothes 
  • nightwear
  • underwear 
  • well-fitting shoes and / or slippers
  • glasses or contact lenses with case
  • toiletries
  • razor and shaving materials
  • comb or hairbrush
  • a book or magazine

Mobile phones, MP3 players and laptops or tablets are permitted; however please note that the Trust will not accept responsibility or liability for patients’ property brought into the Trust’s premises, unless it is handed in for safe custody and a copy of an official patient’s property record is obtained as a receipt.
