Wakefield Intermediate Care Unit (WICU)

We provide short term in-patient nursing and therapy to people registered with a Wakefield GP who need extra support, care and rehabilitation following an acute hospital stay before they go to the place they call home. 

About our service

WICU is a 22 bedded rehabilitation facility that provides short term (2 — 4 week) inpatient nursing and therapy. This service is provided for patients in the Wakefield district who are in hospital and require ongoing care and rehabilitation before they return home or to where they usually reside.

Useful information

The following items are recommended for your / your relative’s stay:
  • day clothes 
  • nightwear
  • underwear 
  • well-fitting shoes and / or slippers
  • glasses or contact lenses with case
  • toiletries
  • razor and shaving materials
  • comb or hairbrush
  • a book or magazine

Mobile phones, MP3 players, laptops or tablets are permitted; however, please note that the Trust will not accept responsibility or liability for patients’ property brought into the Trusts premises unless it is handed in for safe custody and a copy of an official patient’s property record is obtained as a receipt. Additionally, for health and safety reasons, electrical equipment may need to be tested prior to use which the unit can arrange.
