About the hub

About the hub

MY Elective Orthopaedic Hub is based at Pontefract Hospital and provides orthopaedic services to patients in Wakefield, Dewsbury, Pontefract and the surrounding areas. The unit offers patients ringfenced surgery using the latest techniques and technologies, all under one roof.

The hub performed 2,168 Trauma and Orthopaedics procedures at Pontefract in the last year (01/09/24 to 31/08/25). There are four state of the art operating theatres, 30 beds on the main ward on Level C, and 18 trolleys on the Day Surgery ward on Level D.

The number of patients being seen in the hub is rapidly increasing and we are working hard to reduce waiting lists.

MY Elective Orthopaedic Hub staff take great pride in what they do. Each member of staff ensures that they deliver the highest quality healthcare at all times.

What our patients say

MY Elective Orthopaedic Hub - Testimonial 2

“Everyone and everything was perfect. The compassion I got from everyone I encountered was above and beyond what I was expecting. The food was amazing. Thank you everyone.”

MY Elective Orthopaedic Hub - Testimonial 3

“Continue doing what you're doing, employing lovely people, who appear to love their jobs, and who just get on with it independently.”

MY Elective Orthopaedic Hub - Testimonial 4

“Having worked in the NHS for over ten years it was lovely to see the ‘Six C's’ in all staff from the minute I arrived, to the minute I left. The coffee shop staff, porters, doctors, nurses, physios, were all outstanding. Five stars all the way.”

Getting It Right First Time (GIRFT)

The hub is currently working towards getting GIRFT accreditation, which is highly sought after and regarded. This national NHS programme is designed to improve the treatment and care of patients through in-depth review of services, benchmarking, and presenting a data-driven evidence base to support change.

Infection control

The hub is the first in the country to treat patients ahead of surgery with a new light-activated antimicrobial that kills all types of bugs including viruses, bacteria, and fungi, in minutes. This new treatment also helps to combat antimicrobial resistance.

Information for patients

There is an Information board on the ward for visitors as well as a Ward Quality Board. Patients, visitors and relatives can also find information about pressure ulcers, and details about the Deteriorating Adult Response Team (DART). There are patient information leaflets on the ward for all the different produces undertaken in the hub.

Patients can also access information about falls, pressure care, and physiotherapy on the ward and information is also given out when a patient comes for a Pre-Assessment appointment.

Patients are given a discharge information form when they are discharged, which has ward contact numbers on it, as well as follow up advice, and details of any follow up appointments.

If you need any more information please speak with a member of staff on the ward.
