New Chief Medical Officer appointed at local hospital trust

Richard Robinson

Dr Richard Robinson has been appointed as the new Chief Medical Officer at The Mid Yorkshire Hospitals NHS Trust.

He joined the Trust as a Consultant Radiologist in 2009, following specialist training in West Yorkshire and Australia. During his career at Mid Yorkshire he has held several leadership roles at the Trust in the Radiology department and the Division of Families and Clinical Support Services as the Divisional Clinical Director. Most recently he has held the position of interim Chief Medical Officer.

Richard, who is ‘honoured' to have been offered the role, which he will take up with immediate effect, said: “I have had the privilege of working as interim Chief Medical Officer since November of last year. In this time I have worked to meet challenges and support colleagues to provide compassionate care to our patients. I am confident that, I will continue to help the Mid Yorkshire Hospitals achieve its goals, working in partnership with other health and care providers in Wakefield and Kirklees to make a real difference for local people.”

Passionate about continuous learning and improvement of services, Richard has an interest in new technologies and enabling different ways of working to best support staff to do their jobs and use the skills they have well whilst ensuring that patients receive the highest standards of care in a safe environment. He has most recently led work to deliver community diagnostic centres in Wakefield and Kirklees which when open will deliver access to scans and X-rays in new community locations providing more convenient options for patients to receive care.

Len Richards, Chief Executive of the Mid Yorkshire Hospitals NHS Trust commented: “Richard was a strong candidate for the role thanks to his wide-ranging experience and devotion for the job. He has worked in The Mid Yorkshire Hospitals NHS Trust for over 14 years now, progressing within the Trust to take on leadership roles, and it’s great to support staff to develop in this way. He joins the Executive Management team at a time when the NHS is facing challenges but we’re looking forward to him bringing his experience and ambition into the role. I am confident we have appointed the right person to help us drive patient centred care for years to come.”
