New Urology Investigations Unit opens at Dewsbury Hospital

New Urology Investigations Unit opening

The Mid Yorkshire Hospitals NHS Trust has proudly unveiled a brand-new Urology Investigations Unit at Dewsbury and District Hospital.

A significant amount of funding has been used to convert an annex located in the Boothroyd Centre into a stunning clinical environment, which hopes to provide patients with a more efficient and convenient service.

The hospital's Urology specialists have been heavily involved in the design of the unit, which will benefit local patients by offering them appointments closer to home, improved access and reduced hospital attendances.

The model provides ‘one stop’ clinics with diagnostics for patients, which allows as many as six separate appointments to be condensed into one specialist afternoon appointment, resulting in 85% of patients leaving with a clear diagnosis, treatment or discharge, and saving over 440 follow-up appointments over a 12 month period.

Speaking about the project, Rebecca Philips, Consultant Urologist at the Mid Yorkshire Hospitals NHS Trust, said: “We are all very excited about leading the way across the region with an expanded one-stop clinic. Without a doubt this will provide the population of Dewsbury and the surrounding areas with a considerably improved patient experience.”

At the opening event, Keith Ramsay, Chairman, said: “I am delighted to announce the official opening of our Urology Investigations Unit. The brand-new unit reflects our continued investment in Dewsbury and District Hospital, and allows us to prioritise not only the experience of our patients, but also enables our staff to work in a more innovative and efficient way.”

“I’d like to thank all of the staff involved in the successful opening of the unit for their continued hard work and dedication.”
