A career in data quality and a passion for sustainability | MY staff stories

Rebecca is a Senior Data Quality Specialist, based at Dewsbury.

She's recently completed a Level 4 Corporate Responsibility and Sustainability Apprenticeship, which involved renovating a courtyard garden at Dewsbury. She shares more about this and her role below.

What does your role involve?

My role involves reviewing data quality reports, identifying and correcting known system errors, and analysing trends in human error to support improvements in data quality. I also carry out audits to ensure data accuracy, completeness, and compliance with organisational and national standards. In addition, I deliver Referral to Treatment (RTT) training to colleagues across the Trust, providing guidance and support to improve understanding of RTT requirements and promote high-quality data recording practices.

Alongside my role, I have successfully completed a Level 4 Corporate Responsibility and Sustainability Apprenticeship, further developing my knowledge of sustainable and responsible business practices. 

What’s the best thing about your role?

The best thing about my role is being able to work closely with colleagues across the Trust and build positive working relationships. I enjoy supporting and training staff, helping them understand RTT requirements and improve data quality. I also take pride in helping to maintain a high standard of data quality across the Trust, as accurate data is essential for patient care, reporting, and decision-making.

Is there an aspect of your work that makes you most proud?

One of the highlights of my apprenticeship was being involved in the reopening of the newly renovated courtyard garden at Dewsbury and District Hospital. It was fantastic to see so many colleagues come together to help transform the space, and the finished garden looks amazing.

Being part of a project that will have a lasting positive impact on people's wellbeing is something I am very proud of, and it demonstrated the value of teamwork, collaboration, and giving back to our local community.

The MY Hospitals Charity team did a wonderful job coordinating the reopening event, including arranging for a patient to cut the ribbon, and an artist who helped us create a painting for the garden, which made the occasion even more special.

How did you get into your role?

I began my career at the Trust in 2015 as a Validator in the Validation Team. Following a departmental restructure, the team became part of Data Quality, where I continued to develop my knowledge and experience in data quality management. In 2023, I moved into the role of Data Quality Specialist, where I developed expertise in identifying and resolving common data quality issues within the e-CaMIS system. I also took responsibility for answering the Data Quality Hotline, providing advice and support to colleagues across the Trust and helping to ensure high standards of data quality and accuracy.

Most recently, in June 2026, I successfully secured promotion to the role of Senior Data Quality Specialist. I am excited to take on new responsibilities, including delivering training sessions and conducting audits to support continuous improvements in data quality across the Trust. This role provides an excellent opportunity to share my knowledge and experience with colleagues while helping to drive high standards of data accuracy and compliance.

And a little bit about you...

I'm a mum to two young children, so a lot of my time is spent playing games with them. We also enjoy spending time outdoors, whether that’s going to the park or playing in the garden, especially in the sandpit. I also spend a fair amount of time trying to avoid stepping on Lego, which has become a bit of a running theme at home! The best holiday I've been on was to Corsica, best views in the world and an incredibly beautiful island. We went before we had our children so they haven’t had chance to see how amazing it is.
