Caring for high risk patients
Mo is an Enhanced Care Support Worker, part of our Complex Needs team. Here, he shares an insight into his role.
What does your role involve?
The role means that I provide one-to-one support for high-risk patients who may pose a risk to themselves or others. I have been in this role for two-and-a-half years, firstly as part of an agency and now employed directly by the Trust.
Since becoming part of the Trust, I have gained valuable knowledge and experience that has strengthened my skills and helped me deliver safer and more effective care.
What’s the best part of your role?
I am proud of the role I do as it is a position that many people would not choose due to its demands. Even sitting in a room with one patient for 12 hours can be mentally draining.
Each day brings new challenges, requiring patience, adaptability, and strong communication skills.
Although I am trained in safe restraint techniques to protect patients and staff, I always use restraint as a last resort and prioritise de-escalation through calm, respectful communication.
I feel positive and proud to be able to help others and serve the community through my role. Despite the challenges, I find great satisfaction in making a difference in someone’s life.
What do you like to do in your own time?
I enjoy spending quality time with my family and friends. I also love getting away to the countryside whenever I can it helps me switch off, recharge, and feel closer to nature.
