Celebrating apprenticeships at the Heart of Yorkshire Awards

On Thursday 12 February, colleagues from the Trust attended the Heart of Yorkshire Education Group’s Apprenticeship Awards, where we had been shortlisted in three categories.

  • Health and Education Apprenticeship Award - Amina Azar and Paige Howley, Apprentice Clinical Support Workers
  • Mentor of the Year Award - Jayne Greenhough, Assistant Practice Educator, Professional Development and Education Unit
  • Large Employer of the Year - Mid Yorkshire Teaching NHS Trust

The Trust is currently supporting 440 colleagues through apprenticeship programmes, with 60 studying with Heart of Yorkshire.

Amina and Paige are both new to the Trust, having joined less than a year ago. Their clinical support worker apprenticeships are helping them build new skills while studying and working. Both received glowing nominations from their assessor, Chloe England.

Amina was praised for her compassion, professionalism, and genuine kindness; she is on track for a well‑deserved distinction and is truly inspiring in her ambition to progress into nursing. Paige was recognised for achieving so much at such a young age, standing out for her confidence, kindness, and resilience. She produces excellent work while balancing her studies and role with remarkable maturity.

Jayne Greenhough, was nominated for Mentor of the Year, in recognition of the work she does to support her apprentices. Her nomination highlighted the high‑quality training and valuable pastoral support she provides, both of which strengthen learners’ clinical confidence and wellbeing. Her proactive coordination and commitment to offering regular face‑to‑face support have made her a pivotal force in ensuring every apprentice succeeds.

Emma Gregory, Matron for the Professional Development and Education said “It was a fantastic night celebrating the apprentices who had been nominated and recognising the mentors and organisations who go above and beyond to make sure apprentices not only have a great apprenticeship experience, but are given the skills and knowledge to succeed in their chosen routes.

Even though we weren’t winners on the night, I’m very proud of Jayne, Amina and Paige, being shortlisted is a huge achievement.”
