Local NHS colleague completes a yearlong marathon challenge for charity
A dedicated colleague from Mid Yorkshire Teaching NHS Trust has completed an extraordinary personal challenge in 2025, running a marathon every month to raise awareness and funds for the Huntington’s Disease Association (HDA), a charity close to his heart.
Graham Dobbs, Senior Programme Manager, embarked on the challenge in January with the goal of not only testing his endurance but also shining a spotlight on Huntington’s Disease, a progressive genetic condition that affects movement, cognition and emotions, and for which there is currently no cure.
Across the year, Graham has run marathons throughout the North of England, as well as completing two international events, including races in Oslo and a final marathon in Valencia on Sunday 7 December. In addition to his monthly marathons, he also took on a 24‑hour ultra marathon in June, running continuous 8km loops for a full day.
Commented on his extraordinary achievement, Graham said:
This challenge has always been about more than running. Huntington’s Disease affects families in ways that aren’t always visible, and I wanted to do something that helped raise awareness as well as funds for the incredible work the Huntington’s Disease Association does.
The response from colleagues, friends and the wider community has been overwhelming. To date, Graham has raised £5,272 for the Huntington’s Disease Association, helping support vital services and research into the condition.
Huntington’s Disease is a hereditary neurological condition that gradually impacts physical and mental function. Awareness and research are crucial in supporting individuals and families affected by the condition, and initiatives like Graham’s help highlight the ongoing need for understanding and support.
