MY Orthopaedic Hub one step closer to getting national accreditation

Mid Yorkshire Teaching NHS Trust’s ambition to become GIRFT accredited (Getting It Right First Time) for MY Orthopaedic Hub at Pontefract Hospital took a step forward last week, when the Trust played host to the national NHS England GIRFT team.
GIRFT accreditation is highly sought after and regarded. The programme is designed to improve the treatment and care of patients through in-depth review of services, benchmarking, and presenting a data-driven evidence base to support change.
The visit took place on Wednesday 25 June, when the GIRFT team were welcomed by Mr Jim Newman, Head of Clinical Service for Orthopaedics and Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon, and the hub team.
Dr Richard Robinson, Medical Director at Mid Yorkshire Teaching NHS Trust was also present, along with members of the Division of Surgery senior leadership team and key members of the Orthopaedics service including medics and nurses.
Mr Newman said: “It was an honour and a pleasure to welcome the GIRFT team to MY Orthopaedic Hub at Pontefract and to showcase the excellent work we do there. Getting GIRFT accreditation at the hub would be a real achievement and it is something we have been working towards for many years now.”
Both Mr Newman and his colleague David Metcalfe from Physiotherapy presented key information about the hub to the GIRFT team.
After the presentations, there were questions from the GIRFT team, then a break for lunch and networking, before the GIRFT team were taken on a tour of the hub facilities and then got to meet with key members of hub staff.
Official feedback from the GIRFT team will be given to the Trust in around two weeks' time.
