Trust presented with NJR patient safety ‘Gold Award’ for third consecutive year
Mid Yorkshire Teaching NHS Trust is celebrating after the Trust was given a National Joint Registry (NJR) Quality Data Provider Gold Award for the third year in a row.
The Gold Award was presented after the Trust successfully completed a national data quality audit programme for all trauma and elective patients at both Pinderfields and Pontefract Hospitals.
The NJR monitors the performance of hip, knee, ankle, elbow and shoulder joint replacement procedures so that patients get the best possible care.
The data gathered is also used to provide feedback on surgical performance to orthopaedic clinicians and joint replacement implant manufacturers as well as being used to support patient safety for joint replacement surgery.
Mr James Newman, Head of Clinical Service for Orthopaedics, said: “Improving patient safety through all possible mechanisms and data reviews is of the utmost importance and all staff at Mid Yorkshire Teaching NHS Trust take this very seriously. We fully support the National Joint Registry’s audit work in enabling improvement in clinical outcomes for the benefit of joint replacement patients and we’re delighted to be awarded as an ‘NJR Quality Data Provider’.”
Medical Director of the National Joint Registry, Mr Tim Wilton, said: “Congratulations to colleagues at Mid Yorkshire Teaching NHS Trust. The Quality Data Provider Award received by the team at this Trust demonstrates the high standards that are being met in ensuring compliance with the registry and is a reflection of the strong departmental efforts to achieve such status.
“As well as being a fundamental driver to inform improved quality of care for patients, our registry data also provides an important source of evidence for regulators, such as the Care Quality Commission, to help to inform their knowledge and judgement about the quality of health services.”
