Wakefield family share positive birth experience at Bronte Birth Centre
A Wakefield couple have shared their positive birth experience after welcoming their second child, Tommy, at Bronte Birth Centre earlier this month. Tommy was born to parents Chloe Brentnall and Levi Evans, joining his older brother, Ronnie, who was born at Pinderfields Birth Centre.
Chloe described her experience at Bronte Birth Centre as “home from home” and praised the midwives for their support, encouragement, and calm approach throughout her labour.
She said: “After a water birth with my first, I knew this was what I wanted for my second. I gave birth this time at Bronte Birth Centre and it felt like home from home. After being encouraged and empowered by the midwives, I experienced the labour I had always hoped for. The midwives couldn’t do enough for us – I felt so in control of my body and my environment. What a dream.
“The postnatal room felt like a hotel rather than a clinical environment, yet I knew clinical support was available if needed, giving me peace of mind. What a perfect combination. The staff were amazing and even made sure we had a family photo before leaving – so thoughtful and friendly. They also involved my three‑year‑old during the postnatal period, which meant so much to us.
“We would like to thank Kathryn Hirst for being our midwife during the shift, as well as Emily Radley, my community midwife, for being so encouraging and supportive throughout my pregnancy. I will never forget this experience and will forever be grateful. Thank you.
“The birth centre is a brilliant facility and it felt like we were welcomed with open arms into a homely space. I would encourage anyone who is able to consider the birth centre – it’s an experience where you won’t feel like just another patient, and where family is truly at the heart of their work.”
Bronte Birth Centre is open to women and birthing people with low-risk pregnancies who would like a natural birth in a supportive, relaxed environment.
Kerry Reede Field, the Trust's Director of Midwifery, Children’s Nursing and Women’s Health, said: “We are incredibly grateful to Chloe and Levi for sharing their birth story. Experiences like theirs provide reassurance and encouragement to other families who may be considering a birth centre. We’re proud that Bronte Birth Centre offers a calm, family‑focused space supported by skilled midwives who deliver personalised care every day.”
Families are welcome to share their birth experiences through the maternity social media channels. You can send your story via direct message to our maternity inbox.
