Work Experience Quality Standard Silver award achieved
The Mid Yorkshire Teaching NHS Trust Work Experience team are thrilled to have been awarded the Silver Work Experience Quality Standard by NHS England (NHSE). NHSE praised the well-rounded induction process and clear opportunities for students to engage, question and reflect. These elements highlight a culture that values learning and accountability, and the use of journals supports the role of reflection in gaining high quality experience.
The review team said:
“The Trust has demonstrated an exceptional commitment to its WEX programme, with comprehensive evidence showing it is fully embedded and celebrated across the organisation. The programme reflects high standards of planning, delivery, and compliance with Silver Award criteria.
“Overall, this is an outstanding submission that fully meets the Silver Award standard, demonstrating a mature, consistent, and learner-centred approach to work experience. Congratulations!”
Applications for Work Experience at the Trust will be open from January 2026. Visit the webpage.
You can hear from cardiology and medical Work Experience students who visited us this year on the volunteering area of the website.

Aliyyah said: “I’ve found this experience insightful and it’s given me more of an idea of what a career in medicine would be like if I specialised in cardiology. I really liked observing the echo as it’s so interesting to see the different mechanisms and structures of the heart. The team were really nice and answered all our questions about the images.”
Ibraheem said: “I have found the work experience really interesting. It has helped me discover that I'd like to work in emergency medicine in the future. I have managed to spend time across quite a few of the medical teams, spending time in same day emergency care (SDEC), shadowed a few GPs, and spent some time in ophthalmology, which was the area I found most interesting.”
