Building healthier smokefree lives in Mid Yorks
The inhouse tobacco dependency service which went live at Mid Yorkshire Teaching NHS Trust in January is supporting patients on their journey to healthier lives. The team offers free, friendly and non-judgemental expert advice together with stop smoking aids, such as nicotine replacement therapy, to patients who want to quit smoking.
Eddie Emsworth, In-house Tobacco Dependency Service Manager said:
All the hard work and effort that went into developing the Trust’s smoking cessation service is now paying off. We have two great Tobacco Dependence Advisors, who’ve made the service a success. They’ve been adaptable and tried new approaches so that we could reach our goal of seeing more inpatients each month.
Tobacco Advisors, Annemarie Boyle and Toyin Adeniran, say they are passionate about helping others and supporting patients to live healthier lives.
Toyin explains:
I will begin a ward round where I chat with patients about their smoking habits and reasons for taking up smoking, and this conversation allows me to support and motivate them to quit smoking if that’s what they want to do.
Annemarie says:
I enjoy supporting patients who want to stop smoking. I get a lot of satisfaction when I make the 28 day follow up call and they have quit.
