Community Pulmonary Rehabilitation Service achieves national accreditation | News

Mid Yorkshire's Community Pulmonary Rehabilitation Service has been awarded national accreditation through the Pulmonary Rehabilitation Services Accreditation Scheme (PRSAS) by the Royal College of Physicians (RCP).

The accreditation, awarded to services that meet nationally recognised standards for pulmonary rehabilitation, recognises the team's commitment to delivering high-quality care for patients with respiratory conditions. Awarded in July, it provides independent assurance that patients are receiving safe, effective and person-centred care.

The award follows a comprehensive assessment process, during which the service was required to demonstrate the quality, safety and effectiveness of the care it provides.

Dr Hilary Williams, Royal College of Physicians Clinical Vice President, said:

“Throughout the accreditation process, the team has shown strong leadership, a real commitment to continuous improvement and a determination to develop the best service for patients. This accreditation recognises the hard work of the entire team and provides confidence that the service meets nationally recognised standards for high-quality pulmonary rehabilitation.”

For patients living with chronic lung conditions, this means they can be confident they are accessing a service that has been independently assessed and shown to deliver care in line with national best practice. The programme supports patients through tailored exercise, education and self-management advice, helping them to improve their symptoms, build confidence and improve their quality of life. The team has also helped to reduce exacerbation rates and hospital admissions in patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD).

Felicity Ransome, Specialist Respiratory Physiotherapist at Mid Yorkshire Teaching NHS Trust, said:

“It has been fantastic to gain renewed confidence in the quality of our practice. We have always known we deliver excellent care and make a meaningful difference to patients' lives, but it is rewarding to have our work formally recognised.”

The accreditation also recognises the dedication and expertise of the Community Pulmonary Rehabilitation team, whose work has helped patients manage their condition, maintain independence and reduce the impact respiratory illness can have on their daily lives.

Andrea Parkin, Divisional Director of Nursing for Adult Community Services at the Trust, added:

"This accreditation is a fantastic achievement for our Community Pulmonary Rehabilitation team and reflects the high standard of care they provide every day. The team has worked incredibly hard throughout the accreditation process, and this national recognition is a testament to their dedication to helping patients improve their health, wellbeing and quality of life.
