Martin Hey has recently taken on the role of Armed Forces Community Clinical Lead, continuing the Trust’s commitment to the Armed Forces community.

Martin is a Consultant Physiotherapist based at the Jo Cox Rehabilitation Centre and also works within the Pain Management Service at Boothroyd Day Centre.

The appointment builds on our support for veterans, reservists, service leavers and military families, as well as our achievements as a Veteran Aware organisation and a Defence Employer Recognition Scheme Gold Award holder.

Martin is passionate about ensuring the Armed Forces community receives the support and recognition it deserves.

He said: “I’m looking forward to building on the excellent work already delivered by my predecessor, Jason Eyre, with support from Marc Smith. It’s a fantastic opportunity to help the Trust demonstrate its commitment to the Armed Forces Covenant, Veteran Aware accreditation and our wider ambitions to support the military community.”

One of Martin’s key priorities is to help raise awareness of the care provided to veterans within the Trust, while also celebrating the contributions of colleagues who have served in the Armed Forces, currently serve in the Reserve Forces, or are part of a military family.

Martin’s journey into the role has been driven by a long-standing interest in veteran healthcare, developed through his work in pain management.

“Pain-related conditions are common among veterans and can often be linked to experiences during military service, although sometimes they are simply part of life in general. Through my role in the Pain Management Service, I’ve developed both my knowledge and experience in supporting veterans. For some individuals, the most effective care is tailored to their specific needs and takes into account their service background and experiences.”

Looking ahead

As Armed Forces Community Clinical Lead, Martin will help strengthen links between the Trust and the Armed Forces community, ensuring veterans, reservists and military families continue to receive the understanding, support and personalised care they deserve.
