Pinderfields Birth Centre celebrates 10 years of supporting families
Mid Yorkshire Teaching NHS Trust is celebrating a major milestone as Pinderfields Birth Centre marks its 10th birthday.
Since opening in 2016, the birth centre has provided a calm, welcoming environment for women and birthing people, supporting families across Mid Yorkshire with personalised, midwife-led care.
To celebrate the anniversary, the birth centre team gathered for a special birthday celebration, sharing memories and reflecting on what they love most about supporting women and families through labour and birth. Local mum Hannah Lupton, who welcomed her son Miles at the birth centre earlier this year, also shared her experience.
The birth centre, based at Pinderfields Hospital, offers a home-from-home environment for women with low-risk pregnancies who wish to give birth in a relaxed setting with support from a dedicated team of midwives. Located alongside the labour ward, it combines the comfort of a midwife-led unit with the reassurance of having specialist maternity services close by.
Hannah said: "I chose Pinderfields Birth Centre because I wanted a water birth in a calm, home-like environment that could support my sensory and communication needs as an autistic mother.
"From planning my birth through to welcoming my son Miles, I felt listened to, supported and cared for every step of the way. The team took the time to understand what was important to me and helped create a positive and reassuring experience when I needed it most.
"Their support gave me the confidence to trust the process and made the arrival of my first baby a truly special memory for our family. We will always be grateful to the team at Pinderfields Birth Centre."
Reflecting on her role, birth centre midwife Sarah Calvert said: "Being a birth centre midwife is more than a job, it's a privilege. To stand beside women as they find their strength, trust their bodies and surrender to the incredible process of birth.
"To witness those first moments and the moment a woman realises, 'I did it' is something I will never take for granted."
Amy Kirk, Pinderfields Birth Centre Manager, said: " Reaching this milestone gives us an opportunity to reflect on the thousands of births we have supported here at the birth centre and the privilege of being part of such a special moment in people's lives.
"Thank you to every member of the team, past and present, for their dedication and compassion, and to the families who have trusted us to care for them during one of the most important days of their lives."
Looking ahead, the birth centre team remains committed to building on the success of the past decade and continuing to provide safe, personalised care for future generations of families.
